Jan. 2025 - Present

Science Communications & Media Specialist at Carnegie Science Center

I write articles, create short-form videos, and manage social media on emerging scientific topics. Additionally, I manage paid advertising for events and collaborate with various departments across the museum to develop approaches to accessibly engage the community on relevant science.

Feb. - May 2023

West Virginia Local Science Engagement Network Co-Liaison

As Co-Liaison for the AAAS-sponsored West Virginia Local Science Engagement Network, I help create opportunities for scientists to engage with the community. Our initiatives include hosting events like talks with local City Council members and collaborating with the West Virginia Storytellers Guild for a "Science as Storytelling" workshop and open mic night.

Feb. - May 2023

West Virginia Science and Technology Policy Fellow

I was awarded a fellowship through the WVU Bridge Initiative. My mentor for this time was Dr. Suzanne Bentzel, the West Virginia University Director of Federal Relations. Through her leadership, I learned about appropriations requests across various disciplines, wrote letters of support and fact sheets, and advocated for science when speaking with representatives. 

Feb. - Nov. 2022

Society for Neuroscience Early Career Policy Ambassador

During my time as an ECPA, I learned to represent an organization during my meetings with representatives and fortified my science communication abilities through self-paced projects which included a healthcare policy infographic.

May 2019 - July 2024

Graduate Assistant

Throughout my Ph.D. I gained valuable expertise in data management, bench science techniques, project design, collaborative work, technical writing, public speaking, and research.

Education

2019 - 2024

Neuroscience Ph.D. Program

I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Neuroscience with a focus on how juvenile traumatic brain injuries can increase the risk of substance use disorders.

2012 - 2016

Bachelor's Degree in Biology

I received my Bachelor's degree in Biology with and Area of Emphasis in Neuroscience from West Virginia University. During my undergraduate studies, I gained experience in research and data analysis, and developed a strong foundation in the principles of basic science.
